Juxtaposing a conventional clock movement with an ant farm, Ant Clock is a visual proposition for an alternative mode of temporalization. The mechanization and standardization of Western time keeping systems dictate the rhythm of contemporary life which is often at odds with both indigenous methods of time keeping and more cyclical, organic modalities of the natural world. This friction forms the conceptual foundation of Ant Clock. An archetypal clock is used as a backdrop for the superimposition of ants–creatures whose compressed life cycles are indifferent to this rigid societal framework. In their instinctual quest to survive, ants overrun the clock hands, and ultimately the clock face highlighting the tension between linear and organic time.
